BREAST LIFT

Want to achieve firmer, more youthful-looking breasts? Do your breasts sag following significant weight loss, pregnancy, or the aging process? If so, a breast lift in Baton Rouge may help improve the overall look and feel of your breasts.

Many women experience significant breast sagging (ptosis) following pregnancy and breastfeeding or after losing a significant amount of breast weight. This is due to the weakening of the supporting glandular tissue, and, unfortunately, once the breasts start to sag, there are very few non-surgical remedies.

Am I a Candidate for a Breast Lift?

Breast lift surgery is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to raise the breasts and tighten the surrounding skin, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

Also known as mastopexy, this procedure is best suited for women who are healthy, maintain a stable body weight, and are unhappy with the shape, volume, or contours of one or both breasts.

How Is a Breast Lift Performed?

Baton Rouge breast lift specialists use various surgical techniques to achieve optimal results and minimize post-surgical scarring. These techniques vary depending on the patient’s breast size and shape, skin tone and elasticity, and the size and location of the areolas.

The surgeon may make an incision around the areola (periareolar), around the areola and down to the breast crease (lollipop), or around the areola, down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the crease of the breast (anchor). Once the appropriate incision is made, the breast tissue is reshaped, excess skin is removed, and the areola is resized and repositioned to create the desired contours.

To complete the breast lift, the surgeon then closes the incisions using a combination of dissolving sutures, surgical tape, and skin adhesives designed to minimize scarring.

The breast lift procedure is performed under general anesthesia, and in most cases, the patient can return home the same day.

Some women choose to combine a breast lift with other breast enhancement surgeries, such as breast reduction, breast augmentation with implants, or breast revision.

What Is My Breast Lift Recovery Like?

Specialized dressings and elastic bandages are applied to the breasts immediately following the breast lift to reduce swelling and support the breasts during the recovery process. Patients can expect to wear a post-operative bra for a number of weeks following the procedure, and they may experience some minor discomfort during the initial 24 to 72 post-operative period.

A small surgical drain may be temporarily placed just under the skin in order to drain away any excess fluid in some cases. This drain will be removed during a follow-up appointment.

Patients should plan on avoiding high-impact activities, such as running, for a few weeks following the procedure to allow time for the breasts to heal. Many Baton Rouge breast list patients find that they can comfortably return to most of their regular day-to-day activities within a few days.

What Results Can I Expect From a Breast Lift?

Immediately following your breast lift, your breast will look and feel firmer, and the post-surgical swelling may make your breasts appear significantly larger.

The final results of your mastopexy will be visible within a month or two, and while the surgical incisions will be visible, the scarring will fade over time.

To achieve optimal long-term results, patients need to maintain a stable body weight.
