Injectables like BOTOX® Cosmetic and dermal fillers have revolutionized the approach to the aging face.

The treatment of fine lines, deeper fixed wrinkles, the loss of volume in the cheeks and lips can be readily addressed with injectable products. These products, when used judiciously in the right places in the right patients, can erase years off your appearance. With the increased use of these products, the need for surgery to decrease wrinkles or address changes in facial contour is on the decline.

I get really excited about injectables. It is important to know that patients can achieve a very natural appearance and improve targeted areas of the face. While the changes are usually subtle, the overall more youthful appearance can be dramatic. I also think that, along with a quality skin care regimen, injectables can maintain a more youthful appearance and prolong the need for more invasive facial rejuvenation procedures.

What Can Injectables Treat?

Injectables provide patients with a more youthful and rested appearance by improving the following conditions:

  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Deep lines on the forehead
  • Deep creases and folds
  • Hollows
  • Shallow contours
  • Recessed scars
  • Thin lips

How Are Injectable Treatments Done?

Injectable formulas are strategically injected into the targeted areas with a small needle or cannula. The injections only take a few minutes per site, and the entire treatment process is usually complete within 15 to 60 minutes.

Which Injectables Are Available in Baton Rouge?

There are various injectables available, and the ideal type for you will depend on the correction needed. During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon will evaluate you to determine the best injectable(s) to meet your individual needs and goals.

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic

Made of a protein derived from botulinum toxin A, BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes the targeted muscles and is FDA approved for treating fine lines and wrinkles, such as deep lines on the forehead, frown lines (furrows between the eyebrows), and crow’s feet (fine lines at the outer corners of the eyes).

BOTOX® Cosmetic typically takes four to seven days for the onset to be noticeable, and the results usually last between three and six months.

In addition to cosmetic facial rejuvenation, BOTOX® is also an FDA-approved neuromodulator treatment for chronic migraine headaches, primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating), and an overactive bladder.

  • Dysport®

Dysport® has been FDA approved for use in the United States since 2009. Dysport® is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic but has a slightly faster onset, with results becoming apparent in one to two days.

Dysport® offers natural-looking results that last up to four months.

XEOMIN® is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, as it contains the same active ingredient: botulinum toxin A.

XEOMIN® is FDA approved for improving the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar wrinkles (frown lines between the eyebrows).

Results from XEOMIN® typically become noticeable in three to four days and last for about three months.

They are commonly called laugh lines. This filler can also treat horizontal chin lines and marionette lines that go from the corner of the mouth down to the chin.

JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE™ XC results can last up to 18 months.

  • JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is a hyaluronic acid filler designed to smooth away facial wrinkles and plump the lips. It can help patients whose lips have become flat, thin, or wrinkled.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC lip filler results last for up to a year.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is a thicker dermal filler designed to plump the lips and fill deep folds and wrinkles. It can also be used to sculpt the cheeks, enhance the facial contours, and significantly enhance the lips.

The results of JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC can last for up to a year.

  • RHA® Fillers

RHA® fillers are another type of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. These face fillers use a slightly modified form of hyaluronic acid to increase facial volume and smooth out wrinkles on the face and lips.

Results from RHA® fillers last between nine and 18 months. These face and lip injections are designed to create a more natural appearance over time compared to other fillers.

  • Restylane®

Restylane® is an injectable gel made of hyaluronic acid that restores volume, smooths fine lines and wrinkles, enhances facial contours, and creates fuller lips.

  • Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra® Aesthetic is the first injectable that provides subtle, natural-looking results over time. Made from poly-L-lactic acid, this injectable works deep within the dermis to gradually replace lost collagen, improve shallow to deep nasolabial wrinkles and folds, and provide a more refined, youthful appearance.

Results from Sculptra® Aesthetic can last more than two years.

Other Injectables

  • QWO®

QWO® is the first FDA-approved treatment for cellulite in the buttocks. It uses collagenase enzymes to break down the fibers and proteins that cause cellulite. This process can also redistribute fat and stimulate the growth of new, healthy collagen. Healthy collagen may help prevent new cellulite deposits from forming.

Patients should begin to see results a few days after their first QWO® injection, but the final results will not be visible until at least a week after their final treatment.

QWO® results last for several years.

KYBELLA® improves the appearance and profile of moderate to severe submental fat (fat under the chin), also known as a “double chin.” This injectable contains deoxycholic acid, which helps to destroy fat cells. Once injected under your chin, KYBELLA® destroys the fat cells, making them unable to store or accumulate fat.

Depending on the amount of submental fat, up to six treatments spaced one month apart may be needed for optimal results. Further treatments will not be necessary after achieving your aesthetic goal.

I believe in treating the whole patient, and tailoring a plan to meet their needs and desires.

Whether your needs are big or small, let’s talk about about them.

The price of each injectable varies depending on the formula, the number of areas treated, and the amount of correction needed.
