BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular non-surgical treatment people rely on to minimize wrinkles like crow’s feet around the eyes and frown lines between the brows.

BOTOX® Cosmetic has many fast-acting benefits that will leave you with natural-looking results. Still, some people are hesitant to try it because of the negative stigma that has developed from popular misconceptions.

What Are Common Misconceptions About BOTOX® Cosmetic?

1. BOTOX® Cosmetic Freezes Your Face

Hollywood films and reality shows are infamous for portraying BOTOX® Cosmetic in a way that freezes a person’s face, causing them to look emotionless and overly done.

This portrayal leads to hesitation, and it misinforms patients about how the injectable works once injected into the skin.

The neuromodulator temporarily relaxes the muscles, allowing the wrinkles to smooth out. When performed correctly and with the right amount of product, the results will look natural.

2. You Must Already Have Wrinkles to Use Injectables

While many individuals consider BOTOX® Cosmetic to restore a more youthful appearance, having wrinkles is not a prerequisite.

Patients can use injectables as a preventive measure before wrinkles make their unpleasant mark on the face.

Using BOTOX® Cosmetic before you notice wrinkles can help train your muscles not to make specific facial movements that are known to cause wrinkles and fine lines.

3. BOTOX® Cosmetic Is Only Used For Wrinkles

BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved by the FDA for cosmetic uses in 2002. Since then, it has been used to treat other problem areas and issues.

The role of BOTOX® expanded in 2010 when it was FDA approved to treat chronic migraines.

The uses for BOTOX® continue to expand. It is commonly used to treat excessive underarm sweating, overactive bladders, and muscle spasms.

4. BOTOX® Cosmetic Is Painful

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a minimally invasive treatment that—when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Ghere—is not painful.

A very thin needle is used to inject small amounts of BOTOX® Cosmetic into specific muscles to temporarily relax them and smooth out wrinkles.

5. BOTOX® Cosmetic Has Addictive Qualities

Some people are hesitant to choose BOTOX® Cosmetic because they are fearful they will become addicted to it.

While most patients return for repeated treatments of BOTOX® Cosmetic, there are no addictive properties in this neurotoxin.

BOTOX® Cosmetic tends to last three to four months.

What Are My Other Options?

Along with  BOTOX® Cosmetic, Dr. Ghere offers Dysport®, XEOMIN®, and Jeuveau®.

These other neurotoxins are safe and effective ways to improve the appearance of wrinkles and frown lines between the eyebrows.
