10 of the Most Popular Cosmetic Procedures for Men

Posted December 20, 2022 in Male Plastic Surgery

6 Minute Read:

With over 2 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed on men in 2020, it is important to understand that plastic surgery is not just for women. That is because men, like women, are often frustrated with their appearance (whether it be their body or face).

The good news is that there are numerous cosmetic procedures and treatments for men that can help them look and feel their absolute best!

While each patient is different, with his own body type and aesthetic frustrations, below are 10 of the most popular surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures that men can undergo to achieve a more youthful and masculine appearance, while improving their self-confidence.

Surgical Procedures

1. Eyelid Surgery/Lift

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is used to remove sagging skin from your upper eyelids as well as help relieve puffiness and bags under the eyes. In addition to the aesthetic improvements that can be achieved from this procedure, there are also functional benefits for some patients, whose sagging eyelids impair their vision.

You can choose to have upper blepharoplasty, where excess fat and tissue are removed or repositioned in your upper eyelid and loose skin is surgically removed and/or tightened. For lower blepharoplasty, subcutaneous fat in the lower eyelid and beneath the eye is repositioned, and the skin is tightened. After your procedure, you can look forward to a more youthful and rejuvenated facial appearance!

2. Facelift

Facelift surgery is one of the most popular and transformational plastic surgery procedures available. This procedure can help you achieve a more contoured lower face (from the cheeks to the neck) to help you look more masculine, rugged, and handsome.

Incisions will be made in your hairline or behind your ears. The length of these incisions is largely dependent on the extent of correction needed. Underlying facial tissue may be repositioned, and excess and sagging skin will be surgically removed. The remaining skin will be lifted to a higher position before the incisions are closed. This procedure helps to eliminate wrinkles and fine lines in the face as well as help you achieve a more youthful facial aesthetic

3. Male Breast Reduction

One of the most frustrating cosmetic issues that many men struggle with is gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is a condition in which men have excess breast tissue, which causes the formation of male breasts. Because gynecomastia is ultimately caused by a hormonal imbalance, there is no way to naturally correct “man boobs.”

Gynecomastia surgery, however, is a cosmetic procedure in which men can achieve a more masculine chest.

For this procedure, either liposuction surgery will be used to remove stubborn fat in the area, or Dr. Ghere will surgically remove excess breast tissue in the chest. Some patients require a combination of both liposuction and surgical excision to achieve their desired goal. Additionally, men who suffer from extreme gynecomastia may require excess and sagging skin to be removed to help them achieve the contoured and defined chest they desire.

4. Facial Implants

For men, a rugged facial appearance with a square jaw and defined chin has always been the ideal. Unfortunately, not all men are blessed with this type of bone structure. Luckily, facial implants are available to change the structure of the chin, cheeks, and jawline.

Facial implants are made of a solid silicone and are available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes to provide you with the alternations you desire and give you options that are able to fit comfortably and seamlessly over your natural bone structures.

These implants are placed just above the bone to create a more defined, angular, and masculine appearance.

5. Hair Transplant Procedures

Hair loss can start at any age, but for most men, its occurrence is nearly inevitable. While expected (at least to some degree), the process of losing your hair or seeing your hair thin, is both disheartening and damaging to your self-confidence.

Fortunately, advancements in cosmetic technologies have provided men — and women — with a variety of hair restoration options.

Non-surgical Treatments

6. Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser treatments can help men whose skin (both on the face and the rest of the body) is beginning to show the effects of age or lifestyle. Whether it be wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, sun damage, pigmentation issues, spider veins, or any number of other skin blemishes, laser skin resurfacing can help to give you clearer and smoother skin.

For this treatment, laser energy is directed at the treatment area to heat up the underlying tissue to help promote the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are proteins in the skin that are responsible for the skin’s strength, health, and elasticity. Over time, after your laser treatment, the new collagen and elastin will help to revitalize your skin to get rid of skin concerns and blemishes while giving your skin the texture and tone that you’ve been looking for.

7. BOTOX® Cosmetic

There are two different types of wrinkles that can affect your facial skin: static wrinkles and dynamic wrinkles. While static wrinkles are often the result of age (the breakdown of proteins in your skin), dynamic wrinkles can appear on your face at any age. That is because dynamic wrinkles are the result of constant muscle contractions, which occur when you make certain facial expressions (like smiling, frowning, and squinting).

BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most trusted names in non-surgical cosmetic correction. Unlike dermal fillers, BOTOX® Cosmetic is a neuromodulator made of botulinum toxin-A that is injected into troublesome muscles that cause the dynamic wrinkles to form.

The neurotoxins in BOTOX® Cosmetic temporarily block the muscles and nerves from sending signals to the brain, essentially paralyzing the muscle to keep it from contracting.

After your BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure, you can enjoy a smoother, more youthful appearance without those troublesome lines in your skin.

8. JUVÉDERM®

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that help to smooth wrinkles in the skin as well as restore lost volume in areas of the face, such as in the cheeks and under the eyes. One of the most effective brands of injectable fillers is JUVÉDERM®.

Because there is an entire line of JUVÉDERM® injectable options, you can rest assured that there is a filler that can help correct your specific facial concern.

9. Restylane®

In addition to JUVÉDERM®, Restylane® is an injectable filler that can reduce the presence and appearance of wrinkles and fine lines in your facial skin while also restoring volume loss that you may have experienced from age or life events. Restylane® is made of a hyaluronic acid (HA) gel that is injected beneath the skin. HA attracts and retains moisture in the skin, which can fill in lines in the skin and restore volume to help you achieve the full and healthy look you desire.

10. KYBELLA®

KYBELLA® is also an injectable treatment option for men, though it differs from BOTOX® Cosmetic, JUVÉDERM®, and Restylane®. That is because KYBELLA® is composed of deoxycholic acid and is used to help correct the presence of a double chin, which can be embarrassing for many men. Fortunately, KYBELLA® can effectively reduce submental fat to give you a more defined and sculpted chin, which can help you look more masculine.
